The Last Lap

The Last Lap

And when you come
hours and minutes away
Compared to the years that you have dwelled
And when you come
yards and inches away
Compared to the miles that you have traveled

And you realize
the moment has arrived
To settle down, recompose to give in your best
And you feel the energy
with God by your side
On how you have to hold on and forget the rest

And you see a glimpse
of a future waiting
You gather the will to move on, bit by bit
And you hear
your old father praying
Tune your soul for it. Give your life for it.

And a hundred magicians
get together at work
You rise like a phoenix in flames for this story
And you pull up
each and every one’s faith
To win just once for that roar of victory

And you look back
to see everyone in hope
Holding the hands of “past present future” tense
And fill life in a body
that has lost a soul
To make history for your own future reference

And where your legend
will inspire the many to come
To accept this moment without asking a “why”
Let the sparks spread
Which a few will gather
For they will remember this song as they live and die
